The Growing Season

I can't help but admit that Pumpkinrot had an influence on this painting. His sculptures are among my favorite and his taste for horror and the macabre are a mirror to my own. I had the idea that summer time is not just the growing season for plants of the natural variety, but also for the super natural ones. They grow all summer waiting for October when they can break free of the earth and bedevil the world of men. This painting took me about two hours and was created to be a banner for my Facebook page.

Castle Greenfuzz

I painted this image for friends of mine who are hosting the Halloween party for this year. They call their home Castle Greenfuzz and I found the name inspiring. So here is the castle as it appears in my imagination. I think I was influenced by the poem The Haunted Palace by Edgar Allan Poe. Here is a sample for those unfamiliar.

Jester

I have unearthed one of my old illustrations from my time in school. This Jester was created to be used on a postcard to promote the schools autumn showcase, but was not distributed by the school until the actual show. A great deal of work went into the shows, but they were not promoted in the way students needed in order to make business contacts. I stopped taking part in the show after that.

Xenomorph

Tomorrow I leave for Louisville KY, I go around this time of year every year for a convention called Wonderfest. This year is different though. I will be showing my art in the dealers room and it is the largest convention I have ever shown my work in. I know a large portion of the crowd  but I am nervous all the same. Wish me luck!

Winter is Coming

 Raven Road 2013 1 hour 40 minutes

Ymir 2013 40 minutes
But not really, it is early spring and for some reason I am painting winter images. It must be due to my reading Game of Thrones. Fall is my favorite season with winter at a close second. I only like summer for the chance to swim and spring makes me sick. Elm trees pollinate and I am horribly allergic. These are not my best paintings but they aren't bad for speed paintings.

Ankou

Ankou (French) is a graveyard guardian spirit that carries a lantern and scythe and is frequently accompanied by an owl. This image was drawn in pen and ink and then textured in Photoshop.

Banners and Speed Painting

FireGod
1 hour

Blood Bat
30 minutes

The Creature from the Black Lagoon
45 minutes
I have been practicing my speed painting and using the results as banners on my Facebook. I plan to continue to create more and to improve as I go. These three did not take very long and the results are fair.
